Not Done, Yet.
Ok, to be honest, Mary and I are staring the big 70 directly in the eye (next year). As you might expect, we’re often asked, “You retired?”.
Our response, “NOT DONE, YET”.
We are enjoying some of the perks of this time of life…reduced rate health care (Medicare), income supplements (Social Security, etc.), NO MORTGAGE and of course, kids and grandkids. There are 19 of us now, but a bit difficult to get us all together at the same time for one of those nice Christmas family pictures. Here’s the three girls (l-r, Sarah, Christine & Heather), Mary and me.
Officially Mary has submitted her retirement papers, TWICE! However, she still gets called to ‘special duties’ at Laura Wilder School. It’s only five blocks away…that’s nice. She loves working with the kids and all her educator friends, but also has plenty of time for jigsaw puzzles, trying new recipes (good for me) and discovering relatives all around the world through Ancestry.com. At last count she has 12,971 DNA matches. Hope they aren’t all planning to show up for Christmas.
She’s, “NOT DONE, YET”.
I must admit, I have more time for “coffee”, ballgames (any sport), song leading at Kiwanis (I can’t really sing), heading up the Historical Society (at this age you are ‘history’) and a few other things, but still find myself behind the camera, editing video and telling stories (something I love).
You might say, “NOT DONE, YET”.
So, it makes me wonder about the Baby in the manager (now a couple of thousand years old). How often is He asked, “You retired”? I think He also loves what He is doing and I’m pretty sure His answer is…
“NOT DONE, YET”.
Thank God!
Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Great 2023.
